Radiotherapy Building It was in 1964 when the Department of Radiotherapy was established in Sabah hospital which was the largest general hospital in Kuwait at that time. In the late seventies, the need for a comprehensive Cancer Centre was realized and in 1982 Kuwait Cancer Control Centre (KCCC) was established with all the major specialties under one roof. This was the first oncology centre in the whole GCC region. Initially, the centre had only Superficial and Deep X-ray Therapy machines but in 1969, a cobalt unit was installed. In the late 1970’s, the centre acquired the first Linear accelerator. New and latest machines were added to the radiation oncology department for better and up-to-date management of cancer patients. Doctors were sent abroad for specialized training and regular international conferences were held. Various Research Projects were started in collaboration with major noted international cancer institutions.
